Hunting to me has been a way of life since I was a child. Not a way to live, or to make a living, but an integral part of who I am and who God created me to be.
I grew up hunting with my dad and granddad and those memories are some of the best and most vivid I have. I made my decision to follow Christ while sitting in a tree stand in the woods of central Georgia at the age of 12. I am now able to start sharing these times with my two daughters and still get to hunt with my dad on a regular basis. Hunting is not about the camouflage outfits, the weapon of choice or even the kill, for me it’s about being quiet, being outdoors, refreshing my mind and being alone with God in His creation. It’s a time to clear my mind, find clarity on family and work issues, pray and relax.
To be in God’s creation humbles me and reminds me of who I serve and what He has done for us.
This video is great and it’s a deer of a lifetime, but the words of Joe Franz at the end are the most important part. We are nothing without God and the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ. We were given dominion over the birds of the air, fish of the sea and land animals. Our job is to take care of the creation He gave us. And as a hunter, who manages the herd and provides food for my family, I feel honored for the opportunity each and every time I head out in to the great outdoors.
