Me, Me, Me

Twitter this, Snapchat that, Facebook those, Instagram these, selfie, selfie, selfie…………….yuck. I’m done with it, I’m over it. I’ve actually been over it. I’m NOT A FAN.

When did people stop being real with each other? I don’t know the answer. I do know that when I grew up, any parent could scold me or correct me if I was out of line. I know that when I was out, I better behave because any parent could be my parent. Now, not so much. ME, ME, ME.

I see divorces everywhere. I see kids that run wild and talk with total disrespect to their parents. I see young people who don’t know how to work but still want more money. ME, ME, ME.

Every kid rules the roost on a Disney show. Parents are stupid. Does anyone even remember Father Knows Best??? ME, ME, ME

Of course it’s not like this everywhere or all the time but it does seem to be a more pervasive atmosphere than ever. And it’s all fake! Filters, staged moments captured on screen, editing or photoshop. ME, ME, ME.

Not claiming to be perfect. Not claiming to even making good decisions most of the time. I am claiming that I’m trying and I’m using the BIBLE as my source! JESUS, JESUS, JESUS.

Several years ago I did a study through a book by Kyle Idleman, Not a Fan. I’ve NOT BEEN A FAN ever since! Of course that has to do with being a FOLLOWER of Jesus not just a fan. Now I’m entering a new study – The End of Me: Where Real Life in the Upside-Down Ways of Jesus Begins. You can see Kyle here with a brief introduction.

It’s a study of the Sermon on the Mount. You know, Blessed are the Poor, those who Mourn, etc. That one, in Matthew 5! Well you can already see with the first two; Poor and Mourn, it’s not a Snapchat lesson or Facebook post. It would never be retweeted or liked 1,000 times on Instagram (if that’s even the purpose.) But it is about finding Jesus and losing me. It’s about being REAL and forgetting whose watching or trying to impress anyone. We all are broken. We all have sinned. We’re not fooling anyone! So let’s face it together and help each other. It’s called the Body of Christ for a reason – it takes all the parts for it to work.

I have a dear friend who has found Jesus more intensely than ever and lost her health at the same time. And do you know what? She is full of JOY and PEACE! The fruits of the Spirit abound from her and her family. The have found the true meaning of Jesus and his love and it’s more precious than anything and some people just can’t figure it out. Why? Because it’s counter culture. It’s not about more, it’s about less. It’s not about perfect, it’s about peaceful. It’s not about ME, it’s about HIM! I love that I know her and get to learn from her. I love that God has intertwined our families in a way that could never have been scripted. Because if you tried to script it, it wouldn’t make any sense. It would be illogical. It wouldn’t flow, the dots wouldn’t connect. But it IS.

I’m excited to see what I learn and how Jesus reveals himself.

Totally off topic of building materials today but maybe on topic for someone trying to build their self.
